Sony have fired off a number of new screenshots revealing action from their forthcoming military combat title Ace Combat 5: Squadron Leader.

The game is set a couple of years in the future around 2010, with over 30 missions being flown out of Sand Island in what is being billed as "hours of non-stop flying action", with real-time weather to contend during flight, and 3D computer generated cut-scenes thrown in for good effect to enhance the storyline.

Maps are said to be twice as large as those found in Ace Combat: Distant Thunder, with some measuring in excess of 600 square miles, and requiring some fairly intense flight manoeuvres to ensure mission specific targets are reached.

In-flight refuelling will also be a feature of the game due to the huge distances which will be covered whilst taking part in the missions, and your commanding of the rest of the squadron will require not only co-ordinated attacks but tactical flying to ensure fuel levels don't run low mid-mission.

Ace Combat 5: Squadron Leader is due for release exclusively on the PlayStation 2 during the first half of 2005.
