THQ have announced that they're bringing Battlebots to the PlayStation 2, and from the screenshots we've seen, it looks like it'll go down a storm with fans of Robot Wars.

Players start with a small budget and can build a basic robot with standard features, and can play in either arcade which sees power-ups that give your robot special functions, or in the simulation where you need to select the parts for your robot to make the most powerful robot.

More than 40 different battlebots are available including a number of robots based on those in the TV series, and each can be personalised with different colours and add-ons such as flags and bug eyes, along with a selection of weapons from spikes and cutting discs to the all important self-righting mechanisms, crushers and flamethrowers.

Action takes place in some twenty arenas, each with their own special features such as falling objects and hazards like the Pulverizers, Kill Saws, and Hell Raisers to spice up the gameplay.

Multiplayer battles can also be played in up to four players, taking part in a league over several arenas with the aim of becoming the BattleBot Champion, with bots from a range of weight classes including Light Weight, Middle Weight, Heavy Height, Super Heavy Weight.

Battlebots is due for release on the PlayStation 2 in the new year.
