ELSPA have today announced that the official Christmas number one title is EA's Medal of Honor: Rising Sun, which itself was 3/1 second favourite with bookmakers Ladbrokes.

Rising Sun fought off stiff competition from other titles which were being tipped for success in the pre-Christmas multi-format sales chart, including Codemasters' Pop Idol which at one stage was expected to be chart favourite, but ultimately failed to even make it in to the top 10.

Electronic Arts heavily dominated with no fewer than six titles in the top 10, including Need for Speed: Underground (2), FIFA Football 2004 (4), Lord of the Rings: Return of the King (5), The Sims Bustin' Out (8) and Harry Potter: Quidditch World Cup (9).

Finding Nemo from Disney/THQ came 10th place, with True Crime: Streets of LA and Tony Hawks Underground from Activision taking the mid-table 6th and 7th places. Vivendi published The Simpsons: Hit and Run made a respectable 3rd place, despite not even being considered by the bookies to appear anywhere near the top of the chart.
