Codemasters have announced that they've signed Innerloop's sequel to Project IGI.

Project IGI was published by Eidos, but the sequel, IGI 2 is planned for a spring 2002 launch by Codemasters, and will see stealth-based first-person shooter action in a modern warfare and espionage theme.

IGI 2 is set soon after the events of the first title, with the key characters, but a totally new storyline and locations.

Codemasters' Gary Rowe told us "Innerloop Studios demonstrated exceptional expertise in the first-person-shooter arena with the original IGI, and their ambitions for this new title impressed us greatly. After the success of Operation Flashpoint, we're very excited to be working closely with such a creative team to produce a game that we're confident will be the most dramatic and entertaining first-person action adventure of 2002".

If the recent first person titles in this style from Codemasters are anything to go by, then IGI 2 should be one to watch out for when it makes a swoop on to the PC during 2002 - we'll bring you more news of the title soon.
