Codemasters have announced that their latest Colin McRae title will be launching in September - some two months earlier than originally planned when the title was revealed earlier this year.

Development of the title has been in progress since last Summer, with a team of 50 working on every aspect of the game, from the new car handling to the upgraded graphics, creating the rally stages in eight different world locations, and developing a selection of new modes which haven't been seen in the series before.

An enhanced car handling engine has been developed, which instead of using a steering aid which caused your car to pivot on a central spot as it did in Colin McRae Rally 3, you've now got a more professional, realistic and natural handling experience which handles like a real rally car, making skids and powerslides much more like the real driving experience.

Codemasters' Director of Development Gary Dunn told GamesPaper "It's all in the detail - the team has enhanced the already-powerful physics engine to make each car handle even more realistically and instinctively. Cars are modelled heavier and have more attributes added to the engine".

As can be seen from the new Xbox screenshots on this page, Colin McRae Rally 04 is shaping up to be the most realistic looking rally game we've ever seen, and the new Bumper Cam should mean you'll be closer to the action than ever before.

Colin McRae Rally 04 is due for release on the Xbox and PlayStation 2 by the end of September, and you can find out more by visiting the Colin McRae Rally 04 website.
