Nintendo yesterday released the very first screenshots of Mario Kart on the Gamecube, weeks ahead of the e3 expo where we were expecting them to be revealed.

It looks like the biggest change in Mario Kart: Double Dash is the inclusion of two characters on each kart, and no doubt the main reason for the Double Dash name which the latest game will have.

Exact gameplay details haven't been confirmed, but it'd seem that the character to the rear of each kart will be able to attack the opponents and use the power-ups in typical Mario Kart style, whether in single player, two player split screen, or the hugely popular four player quarter split screen modes.

No release date has been confirmed for Mario Kart: Double Dash yet, although we're sure that'll be confirmed along with everything else that we're unclear on yet, at e3 which takes place in Los Angeles from May 14th.
