Atari have announced Shadow Ops: Red Mercury for the Xbox and PC, at E3 in Los Angeles this morning.


The military first-person shooter will feature Hollywood film style presentation, with action taking place in several locations around the world including Middle East cities, secret military bases in Russia, and various other global hotspots in the Philippines, Bosnia and Western Europe.

Shadow Ops: Red Mercury will follow an elite Delta Force operative through battle, after being hand picked by the National Security Agency to find Red Mercury - a secret substance that can be used as a nuclear accelerant.

Both single player and multiplayer modes will be on offer, with up to 16 players taking part in action including including Deathmatch, Team Deathmatch, Plant the Bomb, Capture the Flag and Escort on the Xbox Live service. The game will also support the Xbox Voice communicator headset, allowing for tactical team based play.

Shadow Ops: Red Mercury is expected to be released on both the PC and Xbox during the summer of 2004.
