Resident Evil Outbreak will see you playing as an ordinary citizen in Raccoon City, waging war against pharmaceutical giant Umbrella, who were responsible for the events leading up to the disaster which has ruined the city by causing people to turn into flesh-eating zombies and prowling the streets causing chaos.

Talking about the announcement, Capcom's president Bill Gardner said "Millions of fans asked for a new, innovative Resident Evil release on the PS2... now Capcom delivers. Resident Evil Outbreak is revolutionary in the fact that it will support online and offline play to bring many gamers together to experience their favourite survival horror game."

Action will take place in both single player offline and online multiplayer game modes, where you'll get to play with three other gamers at the same time over the network - in the online mode you'll work co-operatively with the other human players, communicate with them via the PS2 voice system. The story will develop further based on decisions that are made as you go through the game, and a large number of non-player characters will be present to interact with.

Resident Evil Outbreak is due for release on the PlayStation 2 in America by this Christmas, with a European release expected in early 2004.
