A follow-up to Burnout 3: Takedown has been announced by Electronic Arts today, in the form of Burnout Revenge, which is due for release on the PlayStation 2 and Xbox in September.

EA's previous Burnout title was the first since the series passed to them from Acclaim, and although in many areas the game managed to impress with some very high speed driving, it ultimately disappointed by being very lacking in some areas - especially with the implementation of Xbox Live features.

Hopefully these annoyances (of which there were too many) will be ironed out for Burnout Revenge, which is said to allow gamers the ability to "rip through rush hour traffic" in a new Revenge mode which pits drivers against the clock and taking out their frustrations on the other snarled-up bumper to bumper traffic - surely the same as every previous Burnout title released so far.

Burnout Revenge is expected to be shown for the first time at E3 next month, and we'll have further details just as soon as they're known.
