The ECTS Awards ceremony took place today during the second day of ECTS 2002, and were presented by Whizzbang TV's Gareth Jones, with over 1000 members of the trade said to be watching the event.

Overall game of the show was awarded to Splinter Cell from Ubi Soft, with PC game of the show going to Breed, and Console game of the show going to Pro Evolution Soccer 2.

A poll on the ECTS website saw Sony's PlayStation 2 voted as best console of the year, with Grand Theft Auto 3 picking up the best console game of the year award. Medal of Honour: Allied Assault grabbed the best PC game of the year award, and the overall best publisher went to Electronic Arts.

Magazine based awards went to Criterion for the MCV Best of British, Nvidia GeForce 4 won PC Format's best new games kit award, and the Edge Award went to Sony for Ico.

Numerous other European awards were presented, with GTA3 picking up awards from France, Germany and Benelux. Germany voted Halo as console game of the year, and Max Payne picked up best PC game awards from Italy and Sweden.
