An International Games Festival is to be held in Edinburgh this August, alongside the traditional arts festival.

The event is being backed by a number of industry trade bodies such as TIGA and ELSPA, and is being put on in an effort to "increase the awareness and understanding of interactive entertainment and to highlight the growing bond between video games and other entertainment industries including music, literature, television and film".

Presentation of an award for excellence and innovation will also take place during the event, with the winner chosen by a worldwide panel of judges from various aspects of the computer games industry.

The Edinburgh International Games Festival will run from August 11th to 18th, with an eight-day public exhibition taking place at the Royal Museum of Scotland, with a one-day conference planned for publishers, developers and the press.
