Activision's long-awaited Doom 3 has been named Ultimate Game Of The Year and PC Game of the Year at the Golden Joystick Awards 2004, whilst both Nintendo and Electronic Arts stole the show walking away with three awards each.

Platform specific awards for best game went to Fable on the Xbox, Burnout 3: Takedown on the PlayStation 2, Mario Kart: Double Dash!! on the Gamecube and Sonic Advance 3 picked up the award for handheld formats.

Further awards went to as retailer of the year, Electronic Arts as publisher of the year, whilst Nintendo's next The Legend of Zelda title beat Metal Gear Solid: Snake Eater and Resident Evil 4 to be named as the most wanted game of next year.

Last year Grand Theft Auto: Vice City took the Ultimate Game of the Year award, however this year the San Andreas sequel only managed to receive the accolade of Radio 1 listeners where they claimed it was their "Most Wanted Game For Xmas".
