Cambridge based Nicely Crafted Entertainment have launched the world’s first 3D massively multiplayer real-time strategy game, Time of Defiance.

The online game sees up to 1,000 people taking part in each game, with numerous games playing at the same time to allow for a limitless number of participants. After registering your details you need to download the Time of Defiance client, which is less than 10mb, and you are then able to take part in the 3D strategy game, pitting your skills directly against all of the other game members, and best of all you don't need any more than a basic internet connection, as there's none of the annoying first person shooter style lag to worry about here.

Each player is battling for the control of islands spread across the remnants of a distant planet, and have to mine resources and build vehicles which then fly out across the world to discover new islands for you to take control of, either by being the first there, or by taking over an enemies island by attacking it.

“We firmly believe in providing games that don’t tell you how to have fun; places you can go and be entertained. The human factor that massively multiplayer games bring to the party provides players with an endless range of strategies and challenges as other players resort to increasingly devious ploys. Almost all of our original alpha testers from August last year are still playing today, which is a fantastic testament to the flexibility and depth of the product.” said Nicely Crafted's Toby Simpson.

More details about the game can be found at www.nicelycrafted.com/timeofdefiance, where you can sign up for a free trial, and download the game so as you can start playing straight away.
