Infogrames have announced that the release date of the PlayStation and Game Boy Color versions of their new Alone in the Dark title will be May 18th.

Dreamcast and PC versions of the game will follow on June 22nd and PlayStation 2 in September.

Alone in the Dark: The New Nightmare is the fourth instalment of the original horror survival adventure game, and has been two years in the making.

The game continues the adventures of Edward Carnby, a secret government private investigator who specialises in the paranormal. Edward Carnby's first adventure was some nine years ago, and has always been seen as one of the genre defining titles. You can also play the game as Aline Cedrac, which provides two different paths to completing the game.

More recently titles in a similar style such as Silent Hill, Resident Evil and Fear Effect 2 have been very popular with gamers, so it would seem that the new Alone in the Dark title will be a massive hit this summer.

The New Nightmare will have 190 grotesque creatures and monsters, and an atmospheric backdrop steeped in cinematic production and realism, with eerie dark sound effects set to a thumping soundtrack which changes with the mood and action sequences of the game.
