Nintendo have this morning announced that they are cutting the price of the Gamecube console to under 80.

From next Friday (October 10th) the Gamecube console will retail in the UK at an estimated price of 79 - closely mirroring that of the new price which was announced by Nintendo in America last week.

The announcement comes after sales of the console more than quadrupled in the USA after the price was cut to $99.99, with Nintendo of America's George Harrison commenting "Clearly, this move is what game players desired, and also what our retail partners wanted".

Other recent price cuts have seen Sony's PlayStation 2 drop to 139.99 back on Wednesday, and Microsoft are rumoured to have a bundle planned for Christmas, although this is now looking somewhat unimpressive after both the PS2 and Gamecube have both taken the more traditional route of price cuts.
