Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas has become Britain's fastest-selling videogame of all time, according to industry organisation ELSPA and official Chart-Track figures.

The game has tallied up more than one million units in the UK since it launched just over a week ago, which according to ELSPA has generated an estimated value of more than 35 million.

Roger Bennett director of ELSPA commented that "the entire Grand Theft Auto series has been a phenomenal success worldwide, generating sales of more three and half million units in the UK alone. But best of all, this series is home grown, developed right here in UK"

However GTA: San Andreas could well have it's title snatched away quite soon with the release of Halo 2 in the UK today, which itself saw a record $125 million worth of first day sales when it launched in America on Tuesday.
