Sega Europe announced today that Yoshio Sakai will become President and Chief Operating Officer from June 11th 2001.

Yoshio Sakai succeeds Kazutoshi Miyake who stepped down as COO after eight years with Sega.

Commenting on his new position, where Sakai will work out of Sega's West London office, he said "This is a challenging time for Sega Europe, the transition from a hardware business to a multi platform business continues and I have a great deal to do in restructuring Sega Europe for a profitable future. My first task will be to develop a business model in line with our new multi platform strategy and I will be looking to ensure that our invaluable know-how is redirected in the most productive manner.

I am delighted that I will benefit from the guidance of Kazutoshi Miyake who will remain at Sega as a consultant to me in this transition stage."

Yoshio Sakai is the director of Sega's Japan based network company Isao, and has also been a main board director of Sega Enterprises for five years.
