Sega of America have announced that they're developing an online version of Sega GT, for the Xbox.

The game will be fully Xbox Live compatible, with up to six gamers racing head to head against each other via the Xbox's broadband-based gaming network.

Races will take place in more than 160 cars, ranging from 1950's sports cars right up to current day prototypes, all of which can be upgraded and tweaked to give the best performance over more than 12 online raceways.

Xbox's Communicator headset will also be incorporated to allow for voice chat during the races, which if nothing else should mean you can shout at your other gaming friends when they run you off the road.

Sega GT Online is due for American release this autumn, which means we're not likely to see a European release until early 2004.
