Fans of The Sims that are looking forward to the online version of the game due for release in February may well be in for a shock, due to the cost of the subscription fee you'll have to pay if you want to play the game.

Amazon are listing pre pay Game Time Cards which last for 90 days of play, for a fairly hefty 22.99 - that means that for a years play, you'll have to spend 92 just to play a game which in itself costs 30.

It's not known how much free subscription we'll get with the UK version of The Sims Online when it launches, although from the official website which lists the American prices, it'd appear that you'll only get the first month free before you have to spend around 23 to continue to play.

The fee seems somewhat high when you consider that a years subscription to other online services, such as Xbox Live, only cost 39.99 for a whole year, which comes with both a headset communicator, and also two mini online titles - it'll be interesting to see how gamers take to the fee that EA are suggesting.

The Sims Online is due for release on February 14th 2003, and you can pre-order your copy from Amazon now.
