Eidos Interactive have launched their demo of Startopia - a space strategy simulation where you have to build and maintain space stations that are scattered across the galaxy.

Your aim is to rebuild the network of space stations, reuniting the surviving alien races by providing suitable home for the many alien races that inhabit space, and in the process trying to create a tidy profit for yourself in the process.

The demo is available for download from the Eidos website or directly from their FTP server - it's 85mb in size, so make sure you've either got a fast connection, or are downloading when you have plenty of time.

The full game, for the PC, is due to be release on June 15th, and will feature nine primary character races, sixteen habitable subsections spanning three decks in each space station, and 40 different facilities to build within each station.

You can also trade and auction goods with other players and alien races, and build up animosity or friendships with the other aliens in the society.
