Sales figures for games have reportedly fallen by eight percent on the previous weeks figures, according to a report by ELSPA/ChartTrack.

The report says that the past week was the second lowest week this year, and despite sales figures year on year being up nearly 2%, the comparison with last year is down a massive 12% on actual units sold.

A mixture of the warm summer's weather arriving, and the World Cup in Japan has been blamed for the sharp drop in sales, which are fairly typical for this time of year, where releases and news are always next to non-existant.

Sales were lifted earlier this year by the launch of Xbox and Gamecube, but have since dropped back off - console game sales alone are said to be down by as much as 13% since last week, with only a skant number of new titles released.
