Handheld gaming device Tapwave Zodiac has been discontinued, leaving thousands of owners in doubt about the future of their Palm-based machine - less than a year after the format launched in the UK.

An announcement on the official Tapwave website has revealed the news to owners, with the company saying "We are sorry to inform you that the Zodiac business was discontinued and service and support are no longer available as of July 25th 2005".

It's not known what will happen to UK sales of the machine, which have seen numerous price cuts since the device was originally launched in the UK last October, and was only available from Dixons and PC World stores. The Zodiac platform has been retailing in America since 2003, meaning owners in the States have had slightly longer life out of their investments.

Owners of the machine may find that games and accessories are sold off at knock-down prices as remaining stock is cleared, but once they've all gone that no more will be available - disappointing news if you spent over 300 on the device at launch just nine months ago and have since bought further add-on's and games, expecting the machine to be supported for a number of years to come.
