Infogrames have released fresh details of their Xbox racer Racing Evoluzione which is said to take the racing genre to a new level.

Central to the evolution of the genre is the storyline mode - something which seems to be becoming more and more popular at the moment, with a number of titles taking that approach including the recently released ToCA Race Driver, and the forthcoming Colin McRae Rally 3 which puts you in the shoes of the driver rather than just being a racing title.

Racing Evoluzione sees the cutting edge design and technology aspect of fast cars mixed in with the lure of shiney fast sports cars which turn heads as they roar past - to capture this "dream" car approach, there will be a "Dream Mode" which lets you build your own car brand and then drive your creations in races competing against other drivers, until you become champion.

As you start the game you'll have a basic garage and staff who will help you to build your car, which you get to race against real life sportscars, and as you progress through the races you get to evolve your car, and make it both better looking and faster, whilst expanding your sportscar business and gaining a reputation for your brand. Doing so means you sell more cars, which means you'll make more money and will have more options and cars available to evolve your car further.

There's some 50 tracks available in the game, and each are said to be made up from around an impressive half a million polygons, and should allow for panoramic landscapes which stretch far further than the edge of your raceway, and allow full landscapes including cities and coastlines to be raced in full realtime 3D.

Quite how much of an evolution the racing genre will really get from Racing Evoluzione, we'll just have to wait and see, but from the screens and details so far it seems like the wait until the Xbox release during February 2003 will be worth it.
