Activision have announced that Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 will be the first PlayStation 2 online multiplayer title.

The game, due for release in the UK on November 23rd, will support the ethernet/modem network adapter, and also third party USB modem adapters.

Online gaming will be made possible via the GameSpy system, and will use "proprietary matchmaking technology" which compares the skill levels of other skaters to ensure that you'll be playing against other gamers who are equally matched skill-wise.

Activision's Larry Goldberg told us "By introducing an online component to the Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater franchise, we are not only upping the ante in the action sports category but in console gaming on the whole." - almost as if he's forgotten that the Dreamcast has several games providing online action, and that THPS3 isn't the first..

Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3 will be making it's way on to the PS2 from November, priced at 44.99 - details and pricing of the UK Network Adapters have yet to be confirmed by Sony.
