Auran's virtual model railroad title Trainz is approaching rapidly, with the UK release set for next Friday.

Trainz sees you creating your own virtual model railway, using the surveyor tool, and requires just a bit of imagination to sculpt realistic looking locations, using the hundreds of supplied objects, including bridges, tunnels, vehicles, trees and buildings. You also get to paint the ground by spraying the textures on to the landscape, allowing for fully personalised designs that can be made to look ultra realistic with a bit of time and imagination.

Once you've created your dream layout - or if you just want to use one of the pre-built ones - you can go in to the driver mode and either drive trains from external views, or from the cab looking out of the window. If that's not enough there's been a busseling community growing on the Auran website since the product first launched in Australia just over a year ago, where there's hundreds more free downloads, including trains, buildings and even complete layouts.

Some 35 loco's and 50 items of rolling stock are supplied, from twelve different countries, and because the program is fully expandable with the online downloads there's plenty more available that you can add from around the world, so as you can have your ideal railway with just the items you want.

Trainz is due for release in the UK by Mindscape on Friday 20th of September priced at 25, and should be available in all good retailers including EB, or online from Amazon.co.uk who are listing it as being in stock today, a whole week before the UK launch.

We've been playing about with our review code of Trainz for a few weeks now, and have found it to be very enjoyable with a lot of good features which make the construction of the routes very easy to make. We'll post a full review here on GamesPaper next week.
