The day has finally come for Microsoft to launch their Xbox console, which makes it's debut in New York at 12:01am on November 15th 2001.

The machine gets it's US launch across America today, but a special event is being hosted by Microsoft in a new Toys R Us store which is right in the heart of New York's Times Square, and even Bill Gates himself will be there to make sure the machines sales get off to a good start.

Xbox launches just 3 days before Nintendo's GameCube, which will be hitting the shelves of American game stores on November 18th, and is sure to see one of the most intense console battles yet.

The launch line-up is the biggest yet for a new console, with Halo, Oddworld: Munch's Oddysee, NFL Fever 2002, Project Gotham Racing, and Fuzion Frenzy making up the first party launch titles, and numerous third party titles including Cel Damage, NASCAR Heat 2002, TransWorld Surf, Mad Dash Racing, Shrek, Dark Summit, Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 2x, and AirForce Delta Storm.

Microsoft have also re-launched the official Xbox website and now have country specific sites with details of the March 2002 UK launch.
