Codemasters have wriggled their way in to publishing Worms 4: Mayhem, which is said to see the Worms series making a return to it's roots after 10 years of crazy bazooka-exploding action.

The game will take a second attempt at 3D after the disappointing Worms: Forts Under Siege, and promises to use an improved camera and animation system - hopefully developer Team 17 will avoid the pitfalls which blighted Forts.

Arabian, Camelot, Construction, Jurassic and Wild West landscapes will be on offer in both single and multiplayer modes, with an additional 20 multiplayer maps being made available to boost the 4-player team gameplay.

Other additions to the game include the ability to make your own custom weapons in the Weapons Factory, and also totally customise your Worm by giving them different costumes and props such as a Policeman's helmet, Scottish style headware, and other aspects such as hair, hands, faces, glasses and even their dying words as they get blitzed.

Worms 4: Mayhem is due for release on the Xbox, PlayStation 2 and PC this spring, and more details about the game can be found on the official website.
