Codemasters have revealed further details of Race Driver 2 at Microsoft's X03 event which is being held in the South of France, and have confirmed that the game will be exclusive to the Xbox.

Development of the game is said to have been taking place since the summer of 2002, and will feature over 30 global championships with events based around sports such as V8 Supercars, Rally Cross, Formula Ford, Open Wheel Grand Prix, GT Sports Car Racing, Street Racing and DTM to name just a few.

A number of famous sports cars will feature in the game including the Aston Martin BD7, Jaguar XJ220 and E-Type, Mitsubishi EVO 7, Subaru Impreza WRX and Ford Mustang Cobra R to just scrape the surface - some 35 cars have been promised so far, all fully licensed and authentic to their real-life versions.

Donington Park, Laguna Seca, Road America and locations such as Miami and Tokyo are said to be included in the roster of 56 tracks from around the world, and it'd appear that Codemasters are going for ultimate realism with Gavin Raeburn producer of the TOCA games telling us "A vast collection of real motorsports, real rules and real racing cars will combine with our most advanced and intuitive handling model to date. Every physical nuance of each vehicle type is accurately modelled, from tyre deformation when cornering to the centrifugal engine forces and complex aerodynamics"

And best news of all is that it'll be playable online against other gamers via the Xbox Live service, and from what we can tell it'll give the likes of Project Gotham Racing 2 a real run for it's money.

Race Driver 2: The Ultimate Racing Simulator is due for release on the Xbox during the spring of 2004, and we simply can't wait.
