Take Two have snapped up the rights to Sid Meier's Pirates on the Xbox, which will be published later this year under their 2K Games label. Ooh arr me hearties!

The PC version of Pirates has been proving popular since it was released late last year, with its new 3D graphics and gameplay features which build on the original Caribbean island-raiding title from the 1980's.

Additions will see the incorporation of Xbox Live leaderboards, content downloads, and a new 2 to 4 player minigame which will be exclusive to the console version - although it's not clear if this will allow for online play via Xbox Live.

Sid Meier's Pirates will be walking the gangplank and dropping in to the shark infested Xbox ocean this summer, and more details about the 2K Games range can be found on their official website.
