People and industry management games have been all the rage for a good few years now, so it's somewhat surprising that a game allowing you to manage a film set hasn't really been attempted before - The Movies is set to change all that.

All of the usual management features will be present in The Movies, although due to the nature of the game it'll play slightly differently to Tycoon style games such as Rollercoaster Tycoon, with a more Sims-style feel to the game, requiring you to control individual people in an effort to get your movie studio known as a world class box-office-smashing creating organisation.

Gameplay mainly revolves around the production and filming, with the ability to select a genre for your movie from the likes of comedy, thriller and horror, select the cast and compose a film a scene at a time using the storyboard mode - each of which can have their own actors, clothing, scenery objects, and other settings which allow for a unique end-result every time.

As the game progresses your empire grows and the facilities at your studio become more advanced, and assuming you keep a good budget on the research you can also introduce new technologies to your filming processes such as colour and surround-sound.

Of course with filming comes the actors, and their emotional tantrums and hyped up egos that go with the fame and fortune - resulting in your lead roles walking out if they aren't happy with the way filming is going or are head-hunted by a rival movie studio elsewhere in the shadow of the Hollywood hills.

The Movies is due for release on the PC in April, developed by Lionhead Studios, and you can pre-order yours from Amazon.co.uk now.
