Acclaims extreme sports range has been a pretty mixed bag so far with some of the titles hardly shining, and the original ATV Quad Power Racing wasn't anything too stunning either, but it's sequel is massively improved.

ATV2's developer Climax Studios appear to have improved every feature that was wrong in the original, and thrown in a whole host of extras, along with making the physics and handling of your all-terrain vehicle feel much more life-like.

Realistic quad bike riding this isn't, but then being moulded around the extreme sport brand you'd not expect it to be. Quad bikes jump through the air, doing flips and spins, and defying gravity as they bounce around the tracks.

There's 15 varied tracks, which are situated in a five world locations ranging from mud covered tracks, sand dunes, and slippery ice. There's also two feature packed freestyle arenas which are packed with ramps and loops, allowing some of the wilder tricks to be performed.

Over twenty tricks can be performed whilst on your quad bike, and thanks to the physics system which has been used it's easy to pull off some pretty impressive jumps, power slides and big air as you hurtle past the other quad bike riders.

ATV Quad Power Racing 2 is a surprisingly enjoyable game which stands out from the crowd when compared with some of Acclaim's other "extreme sports" titles. There is however a question over how long you'll get out of ATV2 once you've completed all of the tracks and race modes, but until you reach that point it's got everything you need to keep you coming back for more.
